Housing for All: A Better Urban Future

The Centre for Sustainable Habitat, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, Punjab and Institute of Spatial Planning and Environment Research (ISPER), Panchkula, Haryana are jointly organising a webinar to mark the occasion of the World Habitat Day, and hold a discussion on this year’s theme - ‘Housing for All: A Better Urban Future’.

The knowledge partners for the event are: Cities Forum, London; Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi; and Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), Erasmus University, Rotterdam. 

The United Nations (UN) has projected that 68% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas by 2050. The UN Charter on Sustainable Housing seeks to ensure access to decent, adequate, healthy and affordable housing for all. This webinar aims to discuss some of the pressing challenges in providing adequate housing across the world. It is expected to highlight the potential policy initiatives to ensure sustainable and affordable housing specifically in the post-pandemic era. 

The chief patron of the event will be Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu (Vice Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar) and will be moderated by Dr. Ashwani Luthra (Coordinator, Centre for Sustainable Habitat, GNDU, Amritsar). The expert panel comprises: Dr. Kulwant Singh (CEO, 3R Waste Foundation, Gurugram); Dr. Alonso Ayala Aleman (Assistant Professor, IHS, Rotterdam); Ms. Ruvi Suarez (Associated Expert, Urban Development, Cities Forum, London); Mr. Jaswant Singh (Senior Vice President, ISPER, Panchkula); and Mr. Rajneesh Sareen (Programme Director, Sustainable Habitat Programm, CSE, New Delhi)
