The Centre for South Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been organising the Fall Lecture Series from September up to December, 2020. One of the upcoming events in the series is titled, ‘A Place to Call Home’ which will be presented by Dr. Ramya Ramanath (Associate Professor and Chair, International Public Service, DePaul University), the author of the book,  A Place to Call Home: Women as Agents of Change in Mumbai

The lecture will entail insights from this book that brings to forefront the  experiences, everydayness and aspirations of a diverse group of 120 women in Mumbai who were recently resettled in high-rise public housing after being displaced from their first homes in the city’s slums. The lecture will also reflect on the urban planning decisions, place-making processes, interactions with state and non-state actors and new ways of life that further the discourse on creating homely and inclusive cities.
